Who is the "us" in Genesis 1:26?
October 26, 2010 Pete Enns
Genesis 1:26 God said, “Let us make humankind in our own image, according to our likeness....”
Why the plural? There are two problems here.

A very helpful book
My minister-cousin recommends God, Faith & The New Millennium by Keith Ward. "He is an interesting writer who believes in most of modern science and recognizes spiritual values in other faiths, but contends humbly for the truth of God's unique revelation through Jesus. Ward walks a fine line between uncritical fundamentalism and overly-critical skepticism. I think many people would benefit from the book."
Here's a brief bio:

The futility of the Afghan War
"The Biggest Secret From the ‘Secret Archive’" -- The release of 92,000 pages of secret military documents by the website Wikileaks points to the futility of the war in Afghanistan and the double-dealing of our so-called ally Pakistan.

Enough is enough!
It's Time to End This War (by Jim Wallis) 07-01-2010
After his unanimous approval by the Senate Armed Services Committee as the new Afghan war commander, General David Petraeus was pictured in The Washington Post with a broad smile and thumbs up proclaiming, “We are all firmly united in seeking to forge unity of effort.” No, we’re not, General. No, we’re not. In fact, I believe it’s time to begin to unite the religious community against the war in Afghanistan....

I recently returned from a speaking engagement at the Bethlehem Bible College; and what I witnessed firsthand sent chills up my back. Listening to the horror stories told to me by oppressed Palestinians elicited feelings ranging from indignation to compassion. What was particularly upsetting were the pained questions of an elderly Christian Palestinian woman, who asked, “Why don’t our Christian brothers and sisters in America care about what is happening to us? Do they even know we exist? Do they know that their tax dollars paid for the Israeli tanks that destroyed my house and the houses of my neighbors?”

"Will We Keep Hating the Government?" -- Ever heard the one about the guy who hated government until a deregulated Wall Street crashed, an oil spill devastated the Gulf of Mexico, a coal mine collapsed, and some good police work stopped a terrorist attack?

Glenn Beck the "Evangelist"
He seems to think he is an extremist right wing fanatic prophet. This 10 minute monologue from Glenn is an example of what I'd call "founders fundamentalism" that implies everybody else is anti-American except those who go along with Glenn and his vision for America (and, after all, he's held some of the letters of the founders with his own grubby fingers!!!).
By the way, if you didn't know it, Glenn is a Mormon.

Why the Tea Party Movement Should be Anti-War
by Valerie Elverton Dixon
If today's Tea Party activists want to be true to the spirit of the Boston Tea Party, then their concerns ought to reach beyond anti-taxes , anti-government, anti-deficit, anti-health reform, anti-Obama rhetoric. Our current national debt exists in large part because of our wars.
