Before Signing Freedom of Choice

During his campaign, President-Elect Obama declared that “no one is pro-abortion.” He spoke about the necessity to reduce the number of abortions in our country. It is a contradiction of these values for President-Elect Obama to carry through on his commitment to sign the Freedom of Choice Bill as his first presidential act. The bill will strip states of their authority to exercise any limits on abortion law and will over-ride any federal, state, or local law that interferes with abortion as an absolute right. The legislation is projected to result in an additional 125,000 abortions each year. By continuing to focus the debate on abortion access, Freedom of Choice takes federal authority too far and provides only an illusion of victory. Read more.
